The 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month First United Methodist (2nd E & 2nd S) has a Weslyan Series, which features local organists playing 3 organ solos, 3 hymns and a short reading from one of John Wesley's Sermons. 10 Sep (Fri) 7:30 p.m. Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square. Marsha Foxgrover, orgaist. Free admission, 8 years of age and older. Winner of numerous awards and a frequent performer on the West Coast and in the Great Lakes region, Marsha Foxgrover has also appeared at major churches, colleges and universities, and for AGO chapters and regional conventions. Currently, she is Organist in Residence at Rockford College in Rockford, ILL, and is on the music faculty of Rock Valley College. She serves on the National Commission for Church Music of the Covenant Church.
Her program will include the "Timpanogos Suite" written for Ms. Foxgrover by Crawford Gates.

11 Sep (Sat) 7:30 p.m. Daybreak LDS Stake Center (4517 W. Mille Lacs Drive, South Jordan) "Christmas Organ Music for Church" --Andrew Unsworth will play excerpts from new and dust-covered organ pieces composed or arranged for the Christmas season. Come and note new works to expand your repertoire.

24 Sep (Fri) Cathedral of the Madeleine. The Community Celebration of Faith.
This annual event brings together the choirs of St. Mark's Cathedral, Cathedral of the Madeleine, First United Methodist and First Presbyterian Churches, and a combined choir from the two LDS stakes in the Avenues. Each choir gets to perform separately and then in a combined performance.

16 Oct (Sat) 3 p.m. First Presbyterian Church (South Temple and "C" Street, SLC) "Master Class on French Romantic Organ Music" --Clay Christiansen will share his expertise and insights to four chapter members performing organ music from the French Romantic period. 14 Nov (Sun) 5:30 p.m. First United Methodist Church (2nd South and 2nd East, SLC) "Wesleyan Sermons" --Chapter members have the opportunity to help 1st UMC raise funds to restore their pipe organ by playing an expanded version of their twice monthly program. If you are interested and would like to be one of the performers, please contact Scott Mills.

 

DECEMBER -- no official chapter event is scheduled. Instead, we will send out a list of the many events and programs planned by chapter members for your interest and support.

 

29 Jan (Sat) Temple Square, SLC "Celebrating the 200th Birthday of Aristide Cavaillé-Coll" --Kurt Lueders and Jesse Eschbach will fill our day with information and music related to Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. These world-leading experts will share their skills with us. In the afternoon, Kurt will give a lecture/presentation on Cavaillé-Coll, his life and his works. In the evening, Jesse will perform music composed because of the development of the symphonic organ on the Tabernacle organ.

 


12 Feb (Sat) 10 a.m. Day Murray Music (4914 S. State St., Murray) "Choral Reading Session" --DMM will share their recommendations for your church choir of new releases and hidden gems.

 


05 Mar (Sat) 7:30 p.m. "J. S. Bach" The Cathedral of St. Mark (231 E 100 South, SLC) --Doug Bush will share his knowledge of Bach. Will he talk or will he play, maybe both? Come and find out.

 


04 Apr (Sat) 9 a.m. Bigelow Organ Factory (130 W 100 South, American Fork) "Pedal, Pipes and Pizza" --An exciting outing for your youth, 11-17 years old, will begin at Bigelow's in American Fork. This is a unique opportunity to see a pipe organ nearing completion that will be housed at The Cathedral of St. Markl in SLC.

 


07 May (Sat) 7 p.m. St. Paul's Episcopal Church (261 S 900 East, SLC) "Members' Recital" --Here's a third opportunity to play. Pick a piece and play your heart out! If interested in performing at our closing social contact Scott Mills.

06 Aug (Sat) 9 a.m. U. of U. Gardner Hall "Super Saturday" --An exciting day of events is already being planned. This move to August provides us with the opportunity to extend the day.
