Deans Message:

Dear SLC AGO chapter members,

We extend a huge thank you to the many cheerful hearts and hands who actively helped make the opening social an eventful evening for the over 60 chapter members and guests in attendance, it was truly remarkable. Thanks also to those who brought refreshments to the post concert reception. Guests are always amazed what you are capable of producing with the artistic presentation of Arlie Llenares from the Cathedral of the Madeleine.

It was exciting to have among our midst brand new and seasoned members, including Carol Weibel who just joined that evening. Special guests included Dr. Daniel Kerr, BYU-Idaho his family and deans and members from the Idaho East, Cache Valley and Utah Valley chapters.

Honored guest and executive director of National AGO in New York City James Thomashower thanked those that had served the previous terms and installed the new officers to responsibly lead chapter membership into a new year of growth and encouragement. He also exuberantly recalled his experience of the very unique venues and pioneering spirit we have to offer for the 2014 National convention here in Salt Lake City. In his follow up correspondence he said: "I had an absolutely wonderful time in Salt Lake City and have been raving to my co-workers and volunteers about my trip now that I'm back in the office. You and your colleagues are exceptionally generous people, and I honestly don't recall ever being made to feel so welcome on visiting a chapter as I did for my brief but exceedingly productive visit to Salt Lake."

We thank the fact finding committee for their diligence having worked unumbered hours on the feasibility study to hold a National Convention in SLC and who found that SLC was able to qualify for the high standards that National AGO sets for such an enriching teaching environment.

It is now time to extend an open letter of invitation to all chapter members in search for a Convention Coordinator for the 2014 AGO Convention: We ask that you submit names of possible candidates and explain why you think they would make an excellent Convention Coordinator. You are also welcome to throw your own hat into the ring. Please submit suggestions to Sub-Dean John Calfo by October 12th, those members will then be contacted and an inquiry made of their desires.

All interested candidates will then submit a professional resume, including AGO leadership record to John Calfo either by e-mail or hard copy, postmarked no later than October 17th. Results will be discussed at the next board meeting. Three finalists will be chosen. The National office will consider the chapter and boards' submission and inform the chapter board of its' final approval.

Deadline #1 = October 12
Deadline #2 for resumes October 17

Once again you are an incredible group of musicians and contribute greatly to the strength of the chapter. This reaffirms one of my favorite sayings by Shaunessy: "We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams and we are the movers and shakers of the world forever it seems."

Thank You
Ingrid Hersman, Dean

In the news:
We regret to have received the resignation of Teresa Beckstrand and thank her for her 2 years of service as registrar. The remaining time all registrations will go to treasurer Allan Darrington.

The chapter directories are out.
Thanks to Teresa, John, Allan and Larry for moving the info through the long process. Hopefully you picked yours up at the opening social. If you did not and one was not sent to you, please contact Lora Kelly our newsletter editor. In the meantime most of the members personal contact information is posted on the secured website pages. of our chapter. If you forgot how to access that contact Larry Blackburn. If any corrections need to be made please contact both Larry Blackburn and Allan Darrington.

A hearty welcome to:
Carol Weibel a member of the Tabernacle choir who joined our chapter just last month. Carol rolled up her sleeves jumped in as driver and chaperone during the POE this last summer. Her mom is a member of the Utah Valley chapter.

Congratulations to: our new chapter friend Geoffrey Myers from St. George, who is in the process to start up an AGO chapter St. George and almost has enough pioneers to do so; Utah Valley's Mike Carson reports that their opening social had nearly 60 in attendance, and membership is at 36 up from 25 when he began his term as dean.
